This will be my workout days other than running. I believe that it is important to incorporate other exercises, like strength training to reach my goal: to be a better runner – to run faster, farther, be more efficient, and stay injury-free.

Runs, Bike Rides and “Some” FroYo

Hi everyone! 🙂

Well, I have been a busy girl since last Friday. My husband and I woke up around 8:00am that day, a little late for our morning run. We were successful to run 9 miles but let me tell you – it was HOT out there that day! I felt like I almost got into a state of dehydration. It was my first time I had to rip my tank top off in my downright desperation and ran with just a sports bra in the last few miles. And wow, that felt better! Never did I think I’d feel okay running in just a sports bra – I’m way too shy. I don’t have that “perfect runner’s body” to flaunt. 😛 But that day, I did not care at all. I just had to do it! I felt weird and conscious for a while but I had to do what was necessary or else I would die in the dreadful heat! :/

Have you ever ran with just a sports bra or are you conscious like me?
What are your thoughts on running with just a sports bra?

After lunch we went out to run some errands and later that day, I was able to FINALLY get my FroYo fix. 😛

I had been craving for FroYo since forever! I see them everywhere in everyone’s blog posts and it’s making my craving even worse. LOL!

Hubby and I headed to Orange Leaf. It’s a self serve frozen yogurt place. They have large cups, which did not help me from getting just a small amount when your eyes and stomach are playing tricks on you. This place made me feel dizzy inside. I am a horrible decision maker and they have a wide selection of flavors and toppings. I was going decision crazy! LOL!

I settled for peanut butter frozen yogurt with strawberries, kiwis, cookie dough and sour gummy bears for toppings. 🙂 YUM! )

Saturday‘s weather was perfect to be outside! So hubby and I with some friends headed out to log some miles on these babies!

It was a perfect day for a bike ride. We did a total of 37 miles in the trail and I had a blast!
I love our trails here! It’s over 70+ miles stretch that goes from Cincinnati all the way to Dayton. It is shady for most parts and the view of the river is beautiful. Great for running or biking, paved, well-maintained, and not overcrowded.
The scenery along the trail is great, and can keep me entertained on my long runs. There’s a bathroom and a port-a-potty along the way which is crucial for me when I drank my way through an entire 2-liter Camelbak on a hot day.

This trail runs through Loveland which is my favorite part. Loveland has great places to eat and stop for your breaks. So halfway through our bike that day, we stopped by this place and grabbed an early lunch. 🙂

We finished up a long leisurely bike ride in a little over 3 hours. It was a pretty easy and fun ride. 🙂

After our ride and burning 1,000+ calories we headed up to Yoba to treat myself for some FroYo again. 🙂

After my much needed FroYo, hubby and I were off to catch a movie, Now You See Me.

Have you seen the movie Now You See Me? What do you think of the magic tricks?

As we were walking to the movie theater, we passed by Old Navy, and this caught my attention.

The moment I saw that tank from outside the store’s window, I knew I had to stop and get one for myself! 🙂 I love it. It’s so comfortable and the length is perfect for covering just enough.

On Sunday after church, we headed out for an early lunch at our favorite hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant. 🙂 After lunch, we went to our local running store to check out new running shoes, AND guess what’s beside it?  TWilly’s Yogurt! A FroYo place again! 🙂
I got the caramel frozen yogurt with strawberries, chocolate chips, cheesecake bits and those fruit flavored “popping balls” that are filled with juice and pop in your mouth – good stuff! Yum!
I’ve become fond of all these self-serve frozen yogurt places. Three days in a row of FroYo – perhaps too fond. Haha! 😛 I can see myself enjoying these places all summer. Crossing my fingers that I never become lactose intolerant.

Yesterday’s morning weather was beautiful. Cooler than what we had during the weekends. I couldn’t let it pass and did a quick easy run! 🙂 It felt good!

My husband noticed my enthusiasm for FroYo over the weekend. So, when he got home from work yesterday, he brought me these. 🙂

YUM!!! …and

and more yum to more of my favorite food – Indian food and Piada 🙂
Piada
Don’t you love your husbands more when they come home with food? I do. That means no cooking for me 😛

That’s it for my fun FroYo-filled weekend.

Hope you all had a yummy weekend too like mine! 🙂

What are your favorite FroYo toppings?

Xoxo, JOTR

All About Thanksgiving! (Turkey Trot 10k Recap)

Hello everyone!

How was your Thanksgiving celebration?! I hope you had a blast as much as I did!

My husband and I just came back from Houston, Texas. We spent the Thanksgiving weekend with our family and friends over there. It was fun!

Since we were leaving for Houston, we decided to have an early feast the weekend before Thanksgiving Day to celebrate with our family in Indianapolis. After all, we didn’t want to miss my uncle’s baked turkey and stuffing. He makes them good…really good! 🙂

Turkey already in the oven first thing in the morning.

YUM!

My aunts and I thought of doing a little workout before we indulged in our pre-Thanksgiving dinner. We attended a yoga class first thing in the morning.

After yoga, we started preparing food as soon as we got home. Everyone contributed and helped in the preparation. It was a pretty busy morning for us.

I made Ranch Deviled Eggs.

I also made Grilled Veggie Pasta which I featured in one of my Meatless Mondays’ recipe.

My aunt made Corn Casserole, and my husband made Apple Cranberry Chutney.

Everything looked soooo delicious! My cousin and I couldn’t wait to start eating.

We were definitely in a state of food coma that night after eating. We were so stuff!

Since my husband and I were not busy on Thanksgiving Day, we decided to make the most of it. We thought that we should at least make an effort to burn off calories before we feast again in Houston. 😛 Thus we signed up for a local race in our town called Friends of the Wilmington Parks Turkey Trot. We signed up for the 10k.

I’ve never done a 10k race before. After my first 5k race, I jumped straight to half-marathon races. So this was my first ever 10k race!

For the 10k, we ran the 5k course twice. We crossed the finish line twice! 🙂

My husband and I have tried running this same course before, so we knew what to expect already. This is usually our route whenever we do our runs in town. This course is hilly! 🙂

And off we go!

It was a gorgeous morning for racing. It was sunny and cool (high 40s).

But I think I overdressed too warm. I wore thermal pants and two layers of long sleeves. I felt uncomfortably hot after a few minutes of running thus the look of my face here. LOL! 😛

I couldn’t remove my top layer because I pinned my bib over the front zipper. Oh well! I tried not to worry much about it. I focused on other things instead to divert my mind from thinking hot. LOL. I just enjoyed our town’s beautiful scenery!

As it always is with any race, the last mile was the hardest for me. I just had to keep reminding myself that I was almost there! I finished in 1:06! 🙂

I am so happy my husband did this with me. It’s definitely something fun to do on Thanksgiving day. 🙂 I felt great that morning!

Yay! I’m so proud of us!

After burning off some calories to start the day, we came home and ate turkey, chutney and mashed potato leftovers from our pre-Thanksgiving dinner.

Friday night was our trip to Houston, but I didn’t let Black Friday just pass me by. My husband and I went to the Outlet Mall first thing Friday morning.

First store I went to was UnderArmour! I love the feeling of scoring great deals on workout clothes! 🙂 There were a lot of people but it didn’t seem really crowded. It wasn’t hectic. There were a lot of free parking spaces. It was a really pleasant shopping experience.

And after shopping, we were off to Houston and celebrated some more!

Did everyone else enjoy their Thanksgiving week? Any fun stories to tell? Did anyone race? Did anyone score any stellar Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals? Please share!!! 🙂

One Race At a Time

We have another race coming up… and it’s tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow! I know, it’s insane. It’s been week after week for my husband and me for these races. And we are loving it! 🙂 Fall weather is the perfect time for all these running events and we are definitely grabbing every opportunity we can get before winter season.

So tomorrow, we are running a trail half marathon. It’s called White Tail Trail Half Marathon. I’ve already mentioned about joining this race in my previous post – Get Off the Road. Go Nature! and it’s the same trail that we are running for tomorrow.

A while ago was packet pick -up and here are our goodies! 🙂

I love the color of our technical shirt. It’s unique. I don’t think I’ve ever owned an orange shirt before. I like it! We also got Body Glide samples and bought some seamless socks from our giveaway coupons. 🙂

It’s going to be exciting for us, because for one, it’s again something different, other than the usual road races, and second, I love running in trails and being connected with nature. Oh, the scenery will be gorgeous tomorrow, for sure! Since it’s fall season, the changing colors of the trees and the view of the Ceasar Creek Lake will be at sight! It’s going to be beautiful and I am excited to see it! I love running with beautiful scenery other than buildings and cars which you get when running on roads. This is definitely going to be a fun race!!! 🙂

By the way, I wore my Mud-stash shirt to kickboxing class last Wednesday.

Sorry for being so pale. This was right after kickboxing class and our instructor pushed us really hard. LOL!

I love my shirt! I felt different wearing it! I felt like a warrior. It’s like there’s a “don’t-mess-with-this-girl” kinda feeling. After surviving that mudrun, oh boy, I tell yah, it made me tougher. I used to underestimate my capabilities, but now, I know I can survive anything. I guess, it’s true when they say – “You’ll never know what your capable of until you try it.” So true.

And that’s why I am trying this trail half marathon tomorrow. We usually run in the trails on weekends but I have to admit, I have never tried running longer than 8 miles on a trail. So wish us luck tomorrow. I hope we’ll survive it!

Thanks in advance and we’ll definitely catch up soon. 🙂

Pure Pilates

I’m excited today because this will be my very first post talking about Pilates :).

I love love Pilates. I’ve only started doing it a few weeks ago, and I became hooked after my first class. I didn’t know that it was hard so I struggled at first. It is not as easy as it looks but I enjoyed it! From then, I commit a day of my week for this workout. I also learned that adding one Pilates workout each week will make a difference to my running. It takes more than just strong legs and lungs to get the most out of a good run. Experts say that having a strong core — back, chest and abdominal muscles — is vital for breathing, flexibility, balance and endurance. Core strength is the primary force that controls motion in the hips and spine when you run. Weakness or lack of sufficient coordination in the core muscles can lead to less efficient movements, compensatory movement patterns, strain, overuse and injury.

Aside from it being hardcore, I think it’s the only workout that I can actually wear fashionable and cute workout clothes. I’ve developed this recent obsession for Lululemon clothes. Their workout clothes are sooo cute. And don’t you just like the idea of still feeling and looking fresh and relaxed after a tough workout ;). As in literally, you can go meet up with friends for dinner right after without looking so worn-out and tired.

all prepped and excited for my Pilates class

I use my ToeSox every time I go for my Pilates class. They keep my feet warm. The non-slip dots on these make them perfect for moves where a firm grip on the floor or mat is essential. They are so cute and I love them.

Share your thoughts and experiences too in the comments section below. I can literally talk about Pilates with you any time of the day 🙂

Gloomy Weather Antidote

I woke up to a very dim morning today.  I immediately checked the weather online as I prepared my usual warm oatmeal for breakfast.

Source: weather.yahoo.com

The forecast calls for mostly cloudy scattered showers and thunderstorms for the next few days :/

Honestly, I was never really O.C. about checking the weather reports before. I guess this is something you acquire when you become a runner. The local weather forecast becomes your No. 1 planning tool. You base your training schedule and what workout clothes to wear according to the weather forecast.

For lunch today, I  had chicken on wheat bun with lettuce, onion and tomatoes, and pickles and bokchoy on the side.

I went to the gym at around 5:00 pm today to attend a workout group class. The class is a combination of cardio & weights.  It was tiring but fun.

So, my gloomy weather antidote would be watching the first episode of the new season of Breaking Bad tonight with my hubby. We love this show and is definitely one of our favorite TV series.

How about you?  What are your favorite series to watch? Feel free to share on the comments below. 🙂

Kickboxing Monday!

Yesterday was not a typical day for us. After church, my husband and I got busy house hunting. Yes, that’s right! We are looking for a house to live in next year. My husband got a job offer for next year and looks like we are staying here in Ohio for another 3 years or so.

We decided to look for houses close to the trails where we go for running and biking, -close to my husband’s future workplace too!  Here are some of the houses that we looked at:

I like the his & hers vanity sink multilayer design.

Leo likes a big entertainment space, while I prefer a nice kitchen. We also like the layout of the master’s bedroom.

It was a fun experience house-hunting yesterday. Good thing we started looking early. It’s fun to look at the model homes but choosing a house can be an arduous task. There are actually a lot of things we need to consider that we haven’t done yet when looking for a house. Well, at least it was a good start to see those model homes. It gave us ideas what to look for and what we need to know.

Okay, enough with the Sunday adventure. Every Monday is my schedule for a workout at the YMCA. I attend their 6:30 pm kickboxing class. We did mostly upper body strength work with hand-held weights today. It is a high energy workout but I find it a great stress reliever.

A pic from our garage. Just got home from kickboxing class.

I also just want to share one of my favorite snacks that I had earlier today. The heat is making me crave for frozen treats. Here’s green tea popsicle! Available in any asian stores. So good… and only 100 calories a bar! =)

I hope everyone had a great weekend and are ready for another awesome week ahead! Goodnight!
