April (and March) Foodie Penpal Reveal Day

I am so excited to be back here on Foodie Penpal. I signed up for this last year in November. Took a break in January and February because my family came over here for vacation and I was super busy.

I missed it so much so I signed up again in March, but my blog was under renovation in time for reveal day.

So I just decided to combine both reveal days for March and April together. 2 in 1! Those are always fun, right?! 🙂

For my March box, my box came from amazing Sylvia Hernandez. 🙂 She doesn’t have a blog but I’m sending her warm hugs via email. Yes, you don’t have to be a blogger to join in the fun. 🙂

She said that she visited my blog to know more about me. She went shopping with something spicy in mind (she must have read this post about me), but changed her mind and shopped something different instead. 🙂

As soon as I saw this paper bag in my box, I knew right away where she went to shop for my goodies. I love Whole Foods Market! 🙂

I love those sticky notes! 🙂

My box was filled with goodies I haven’t tried before. It’s perfect because I love trying new things. After all, this is what the program is about – meeting new people and trying new things! 🙂

First thing that caught my eye was this bag of Kale chips.

I’ve never tried any kale chips before. I took a bite and DIED! These are beyond delicious!

They did not last long and I think I’m hooked on these. I will definitely check out Whole Foods and try other flavors. 🙂

Oooohh this Pumpkin Sprouties did not last long either. My husband and I were munching on these while watching tv and gone …fast!

Photo Mar 16, 8 12 38 PM

These are very delicious. Taste like sunflower seeds. These are great to put on top of salads or just eat by the handfuls.

Next are these muscle brownies.

I am not really into body building but I knew I’ll be 100% guilt-free when I indulge in these brownies. The taste was good, a tad on the too sweet side then I realized they are brownies (not protein bars).

The sugar is a little high so I’d eat just half of the pack after workouts.

I knew my husband would love these Coco-Roons.

He likes anything coconut-y. I had no choice but to share this with him.

I was able to take one piece before he could finish everything. I love it, they are sweet but just enough sweet to complement the coconut.

Now, these Pretzilla mini pretzel buns. I have never seen a pretzel bun before.

These buns came with coarse salt to add to the top if you choose so.

I made a little ham and cheese sliders with the mini buns and I loved it. Yum! This is a great alternative to plain old roll. The buns have such a rich delicious pretzel flavor that is distinct and delicious. YUM!

That’s it for my March box.

Hey Sylvia, if you happen to read this post, thank you so much! I love everything you sent me!”

Oh! Please head over to Karen’s blog (midlifedreaming.wordpress.com), to check out what I sent her! 🙂

Now, let’s move on to my April Box. This box came from Stacie Hoyos all the way from Maryland. She’s not a blogger too like my previous penpal so, no links to their blogs.

When I saw my goodies, I was curious about them. They were all new to me and I was so excited to taste everything. I was looking for her letter, but I didn’t find any. 😦
I was a bit sad when I didn’t find any letter from her. 😦 But I remembered her telling me during our exchange of emails that this was her first time on Foodie Penpals. So I’m guessing she missed the part that says she has to include a letter explaining her goodies.

It would have been nice to read something while devouring my goodies. 🙂

I devoured on these right away.

I see these chocolate bites in Starbucks when I buy my coffee but I’ve never really paid attention to them. These are in small containers which should be located somewhere near the register area. I literally couldn’t stop popping them in my mouth after trying one. These chocolate bites are sooo good!

These corn chips are good too!

They are crispy and crunchy, light and flaky, and still have a bit of texture and depth to them. Sometimes with “healthier” chips I feel like they are almost too light and taste “blah”, but these feel like a REAL snack food.

I threw the greek yogurt bar, Luna bar and Stride gum in my bag for me to eat while on the go.

As you can see, the Luna protein bar did not last long. I unconsciously ate it. Wait, is there such thing? Haha. I honestly don’t remember eating them.

Have you ever unconsciously ate something? LOL! 🙂

The Stride gum has by far the best packaging of any other gum I’ve seen! The actual gum color is purple, tastes fruity like sweet oranges almost, and the flavor and consistency last for a long time.

The greek yogurt bar is absolutely delicious. They are chewy with a good bit of crunch from the oats. The blueberry acai flavor tastes like the real deal. Love these!
I haven’t opened the tea and popcorn yet. The flavors sound intriguing though.

Thank you Stacie for the goodies. 🙂

I sent a package to Emily Gedert who blogs over @EmilyRuns. I’m not sure though if she’ll have time to blog because she’s getting married this week! 🙂 Have fun on your wedding day, Emily! Best Wishes! So there you go!

Thank you Lindsay @The Lean Green Bean for hosting this program. 🙂

I’ve made quite a few friends through food and I can’t wait for next month’s Foodie Penpal. 🙂

November Foodie Penpal Reveal!

Hello everyone and to all the Foodie Penpals from around the world! 🙂

It’s my second month in this program and I have to say, I’m definitely loving it! My husband and I are adventurous when it comes to food, so this is really perfect for us. It’s a way for us to try out something new and different, and of course to meet super cool and awesome people across the country! I love …love …love it! Thank you again to Lindsay of The Lean Green Bean for hosting Foodie Penpal. Head over to this link to know more details about the program.

So, it’s the last day of the month and that means it is time to reveal what my Foodie Penpal sent me.

My box came from Lindsey Barr from North Carolina. Hey Lindsey, if you happen to read this post, thank you so much! I love everything you sent me!

I didn’t get matched with a blogger this month. Lindsey doesn’t have a blog and neither is my recipient, Amy. Yes, you don’t have to be a blogger to join in the fun! It would have been nice to read what people think about what I send them, but, it’s ok. I hope my recipient liked what I sent her. 🙂 Looking forward for next month!

Thanksgiving week must have been busy for everyone especially the guys from USPS. I just got my box the other day, so, I didn’t have much days to try everything in my box.

I love the box she used for my goodies. It’s from Modcloth.com. I shop from that site too. I love everything in that online store!

2012-11-28 13.18.06

She included a hand written letter explaining the stuff in my box. She said that these are some of her favorite fall items. 🙂

2012-11-28 13.18.30She mentioned in her email that she visited my blog to know more about me (yay!). She must have read this post that’s why she knew that I love spicy food! She sent me this hot sauce made only in her home state North Carolina. AWESOME! I love hot sauce and I put it on everything I eat! 🙂

2012-11-28 13.19.45

This hot sauce she sent is definitely different and very one-of-a-kind. Aside from its strange name, it says that it is made with sweet potatoes. Hmm …never seen or heard something like that before. So I tried it yesterday with my breakfast.

photo-6

I had hashed browns with sausage and mozzarella cheese, and dabbed a little of the hot sauce on. It was wonderful! It’s texture is thick and taste different from other hot sauce I’ve tried.

Of course, Lindsey would know when she visited my blog that I’m a runner. I got so excited when she sent me a tube of Nuun tabs. I haven’t tried these before. I was actually curious about these tabs. I see and hear about them but I just never buy them for myself. It’s perfect because I will be running this weekend and finally, I will be able to try them for the first time. Thanks Lindsey!

photo-2

Lindsey sent me this Trader Joes winter-spiced black tea.  She mentioned in her letter that she loves Trader Joes. I love it too! I love it when I can relate and connect with different types of people by having something in common. Yep, great minds think alike! ha! 🙂

photo-1

I am a coffee and tea person. I love holiday drinks especially for coffee and tea. I always look forward to Starbucks’ holiday coffee drinks. Love them! You can tell from our rack of K-cups that I love to drink tea (nice one Lindsey!). This morning, I tried this Trader Joe’s tea and it was good! I love it!

photo-8

I gave it a little twist by adding half & half. 🙂

photo-10

YUM!!!

photo-11

I’m drinking this right now as I cram for this post. 😛

And lastly, another one from Trader Joe’s, Pumpkin Bread & Muffin Mix.

2012-11-28 13.20.17

This would have been perfect for Thanksgiving day, but I’m just going to make this for Christmas! Who says you can’t have pumpkin bread on other days?! 🙂

So there you go! Thanks Lindsey for an awesome box! You really did a good job with your research about me. I loved it! Everything was spot on!

2012-11-28 13.21.18

And to Amy, if you happen to read this post, I would love to know what you think about the stuff I sent you. You are more than welcome to share your thoughts in the comment section if you like! 🙂

That’s it for now. If you guys want to join this fun activity, just head over to this link for details.

We’ll be doing Foodie Penpal different this December. So, instead of matching people up to send packages,  Lindsay asked everyone participating to donate the money that they will use to spend on Foodie Penpal box for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. For more details, check out Lindsay’s post to see how you can get involved. Join us and ignite the spirit of love and giving this Christmas season!

God bless us all and have a great weekend ahead! 🙂

First Foodie Penpal (October 2012)

Hi guys! I know, it’s been a week since my last post here on my blog. It’s been a busy birthday week for me! I made the most of my remaining few days in my 20s. Yes, I indulged for a week! It was good! 🙂 I’d like to create a separate post regarding my thoughts on this brand new decade of my life. Stay tuned for that! For now, it’s about this exciting program called Foodie Penpals (#foodiepenpals). This activity is hosted by Lindsay of The Lean Green Bean. Head over to this link to know more details about the program.  On the last day of the month, we ALL share the goodies we got from our penpals!

Here I go with mine!

I am so excited to reveal my 1st Foodie Pen Pal Package.

The package looks beat up but the goodies inside survived! 🙂 My box came from Heather of MUSINGS OF A GIRL blog.

She sent me great goodies from her home state of Louisiana!
I love my first box. It made me reminisce my trip to New Orleans back in 2010.  I had a great time exploring the city with my family. It was such a great time with them. Here are some of the pictures I looked at once again after I opened my box.
  • Memories of New Orleans, LA:
A picture with my mom. It was Mardi Gras season when we came to visit.
Me in downtown New Orleans, walking to Bourbon Street.
The famous Bourbon Street. 🙂
There’s no denying my husband had fun (hmm). LOL!
…and pictures from Bourbon Street will end here. :PIts nice to look at our pictures once again from that day. It made me miss my family so much – my Mom, my Dad, little bro, and sister. They all live in the Philippines but they come to visit U.S. when they get a chance. Their next visit will be on Christmas! Fast forward to December please, I can’t wait to see my family again.

Going back to my box, Heather included a sweet letter for me explaining my goodies. 🙂

The first thing that caught my eye was the Beignet Mix.
I remember going to this coffee place in New Orleans called Cafe Du Monde.  I love the ambiance of that place. This is where I tasted their famous beignet. This is me, my husband, and my little brother at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans.

My brother doesn’t look this young anymore, sigh. He’s all grown up.Beignet is the French term for a pastry made from deep-fried light dough. They serve it  with powdered sugar on top. For me, they taste like sweet doughnuts. It’s so good especially with coffee! 🙂

Thank you Heather for the Community Coffee. It’s indeed a good combination with the beignet.

Here’s my husband after he made beignet out of the mix, -with his souvenir hat he got from Cafe Du Monde. LOL! 🙂

Heather also gave me these very “Louisiana” chips. 🙂
Don’t they look interesting?!It was only in New Orleans where I saw shops full of all sorts of Voodoo dolls. When I saw those dolls, I remember saying this to myself – “Don’t mess with New Orleans (pronounced as: noo aw-leens). They know Black Magic!”

I started munching on the voodoo chips as I made draft for this post.

This stuff is good!!! It’s so addicting. I had to remind myself to stop and save some for my husband. I could finish it in one sitting. 🙂 LOL.When my husband got home, he finished it to the very last bit of crumbs! It was yummy!

I was curious about this can of pure cane syrup. Sugar cane is usually a refreshing juice drink in the Philippines. They extract the juice from sugarcane plant with a pressure roller machine. That’s how they would normally do it there. I wondered how this syrup will taste like.
I had it one morning for breakfast. 🙂 I usually eat oatmeal for breakfast so I tried the syrup with it.
Half cup oatmeal
Dash of cinnamon powder
Topped with Sliced Peaches
A teaspoon of almond butter
Sprinkled with chopped almonds
& Steen’s Pure Cane Syrup
Heather recommends it for pancakes and waffles. So, the morning before yoga class, I drizzled it over my pancakes.
That syrup was good! 🙂 Now, I am on the hunt for this!Where else can I find this?

I started munching on the other bag of chips while I take a break from studying. So good! I had to remind myself again to leave some for the hubby. I’m a good wife, really! 🙂

Heather indicated on her letter that Tony’s is a staple in most househould in Louisiana.
Creole seasoning is used to boost flavor in any dish. I tried it one night with our dinner. Yummy!
Steamed tilapia fillet
seasoned with Tony Chachere’s Creole Seasoning
garnished with chopped fresh strawberries,
poblano pepper, cilantro & cumin seedsI tried the sandwich sauce last Monday with my Veggie burger. That sauce is sooo good! 🙂 It’s a little spicy which is good! I like spicy!

Thank you once again Heather for making my first month in this activity so fun and exciting!
I love everything you sent me! And because of that I signed up for next month’s foodie penpals! :)I hope you guys will consider joining us too. Receiving a box of goodies feels like Christmas morning every month! 🙂

Oh! Please head over to Lauren’s blog (www.parttimehousewife.com), my foodie penpal for this month to check out what I sent her!

That’s it!

Happy Halloween! Happy trick or treating!

I had fun last night giving out candies to the kids in their costumes despite the freezing weather.

Awwwh… aren’t they sooo cute! 🙂
It’s freezing cold here in Ohio. It snowed here yesterday for the first time this season!
*** My thoughts and prayers for all those who have been involved with Hurricane Sandy. Be safe everyone and always be thankful for all blessings.***Have a great week ahead!
