MD in the making Part-time Athlete Frustrated Blogger

New Blog Name…Revealed!

Hello everyone! Today is a big day for me.

After days of renovating my blog and being MIA from the blogging world, it’s finally about time to share my new blog name!

Thank you all for waiting so patiently 🙂

So without further adieu… welcome to my new blog name: Ja on the RUN. 🙂

What do you think?

I know it’s not earth-shattering, not super cute or clever…

But it’s “me” …literally! This fits more of my personality than the previous one. This is the look, feel, and style I want to portray as I move forward with my blog.

I can finally breathe!!! Woosah! 🙂

I wrote a blog post explaining the reasons for the change here.

So what else is new?!

Domain. New domain is http://ja-ontherun.com. Although everything should redirect just fine for you, you can still update it on your reader if you are the O.C. type like me, just to make sure. 🙂

New e-mail. ja_ontherun@yahoo.com

Layout & Header. Thanks to my ever supportive and kind hubby for creating my new header! I love it! Feel free to look around and explore the new site. 🙂

Facebook Page – For me to easily connect with people who I share common interests with. So, if we share same passion for running, healthy food choices and wants to get motivated to live an active lifestyle, you can find a friend in me. 🙂 Here’s the link to my FB page. Send me yours so I can like you back.

Instagram – Follow me: @ja_ontherun.

Those are all the changes and I greatly appreciate your support.

Everything seems to be working well, taking things one tech glitch at a time.

Thank you everyone for sticking with me. Have a great day! 🙂

How did you choose your blog name? Do you like the name of your blog? Ever thought of changing it?

I’ll be busy for the next few days renovating my blog! So excited to finally have my own domain! Yay! 🙂

Thanks to those who participated in my giveaway. I truly appreciate it. It was fun brainstorming with you guys for a new blog name.  I just hope the transition will go as smooth as possible. I am so excited to launch my new blog soon! 🙂

I hope you guys will continue to join me. 🙂

Have a great weekend! 🙂

Spring, Where Are You?

Yup, this is our weather today.

Photo Mar 25, 9 44 41 AM

It’s still snowing since yesterday here. It’s supposed to snow nonstop until tomorrow night. I am desperately waiting for the spring but the winter just refuses to leave. Maybe we should send our seasons a calender so they will know when it’s time for them to make their entry. Spring, it’s really time for you to come in. 🙂

Photo Mar 25, 1 22 02 PM

So, I was under the impression it was spring. This was my attempt to do yoga on a warm sunny day. (LOL!) 🙂

Photo Mar 25, 9 35 11 AMMy husband and I were supposed to go out yesterday morning to go running. That was the plan. But this weather really drained our motivation to go outside. If it wasn’t below freezing I would so be out running. We ended up just staying home. 😦

I got bored. I couldn’t just let this weather stop me from working out! What’s a girl to do?

Play POP Pilates DVD! 🙂

Photo Mar 19, 6 34 56 PM

I really like Cassey Ho, the pilates instructor. She’s very motivating. She’s the blogger behind Blogilates. I found her You tube videos when I was looking for a good Pilates DVD. I got hooked on her videos and decided to get her POP PIlates DVD.

Photo Mar 25, 2 24 00 PM

Cassey has a very bubbly personality.  She is great at explaining the moves and motivates you to fight through the pain and burn! She does the workout so effortlessly! I am amazed at how she still manages to keep the conversation going while in those difficult moves and positions. I was like “How can she even talk doing this spider plank, LOL!”

Photo Mar 25, 2 41 05 PM

Her workouts are definitely a killer. The moves are tough which I like because I get challenged more, but, she always provides modifications. I am a bit sore right now as I type this post. I don’t mind, it only just means I had a great workout.

As she always says in her videos, “Sore today, strong tomorrow!” 🙂

If you’re looking for a fun Pilates video and at the same time challenging, this is it! I definitely recommend this DVD for all fitness levels. But for those of you who are new to Pilates, it’s better if you check out her videos for beginners first to prep you for the more intense DVD workout.

Oh, you should check out her Blogilates Shop. She’s got some cute inspirational tanks, pretty gym totes and yoga bags.

Have you done Pilates? Love it? Hate it?

Does the weather affect your motivation to exercise?

Have a great week!!!

(P.S. My giveaway is still up. Head over to this link if you want to participate:))

Long Over Due Liebster Award

I can’t believe I have let so much time pass since receiving this award from one of my favorite bloggers, Wendy @slowgirlfastdog. It’s better late than never! 🙂

So, here is my long overdue ‘thank you’ for a Liebster Award nomination.
Thank you so very much, Wendy! I am over the moon with gratitude. I love your blog so much and I admire all your posts about your accomplishments! Keep it up! 🙂

Since it’s my second time getting this (my first one here), so I kinda already know how it works. (I am humbled and touched that you guys want to know more about me).

To accept this award nomination, there are a few things I must do.   Here goes…

The Rules for the Liebster Award are as follows:

1.) Link back to the blogger who gave you this award – DONE! 🙂
2.) Post 11 things about yourself – See below
3.) Answer the questions asked of you – I enjoyed answering your questions, Wendy.
4.) Create 11 new questions for your nominees to answer
5.) Nominate 11 people you think deserve the award and link them to your post
6.) Go to their pages and tell them they have been chosen

11 Random Things About Me.

1.) My name Jaliza came from three different names – Janet, Lita, Zaida.
Lita is my mom, Janet and Zaida are my mom’s bestfriends and my godparents. When they were in college, they agreed that whoever gets pregnant first should name her child after their names. My mom had a baby first and Jaliza was born – that’s me! 🙂
I thought it’s a pretty cool thing to do among friends. 🙂

2.) I love vintage. There’s something about it that I find interesting. Think back to the days of old where the guys wore suspenders & newsies, and the ladies wore beautiful dresses with delicate lace gloves -1940s era. I love old suitcases, old pictures, vintage frames, etc. I have always been amazed whenever I see pictures and movies from the old times. I find it artsy & classy. Visit my pinboard for my collection of pictures of my favorite vintage finds.

3.) I love earth tones.
Every girl loves color pink. That is the typical stereotype. However, I don’t belong in that category. I don’t hate pink; it’s just not me; not my personality. It’s not the first color that I would choose for myself. I love the colors green, brown, beige, warm gray, orange, cream, and purple, hence, the color palette I chose for my motif during my wedding.

4.) I prefer wearing flats than heels.
I honestly prefer wearing flats and sneakers. I wear heels for certain occasions but that’s it. I don’t want to wear them daily. Wearing heels can be very uncomfortable for me. They hurt my feet after a long time walking in them. I feel relaxed and comfortable using flat shoes. During the wedding, I changed into my sneakers for the reception. My husband and I did a crazy dance opening and I needed to be comfortable. Plus, I knew I was going to do a lot of walking to entertain guests. It definitely was a great idea!

*** Oh, looks like I’ve shared quite few of our wedding pics. 🙂

5.) I love Word Games. I’ve mentioned in my previous Leibster Award that I love Scrabble. There is also a game called Scramble, which I play every free waking moment on my iPhone. I think my addiction is getting pretty bad. Sometimes when I close my eyes, I will see a board of letters and start making words in my mind. I even had a dream about playing! It’s crazy!

Photo Mar 24, 12 11 31 AM

Let’s play! Just search for my user name: JaML905

6.) I am a little neat and clean freak. I hate it when our house gets cluttered! I like things to be in certain ways. I get anxious if something is even a little bit out of place. I also make sure I disinfect our kitchen countertop after using them. It relaxes me when the house is clean and everything is in order. With that being said, let’s proceed to the next one.

7.) I make all our visitors take off their shoes. We walk through mud, the bathroom floor at a gas station, garbage juice, dried vomit, and all kinds of toxic waste outside. I don’t want that tracked inside the house because I do some exercises in my home that involves lying on our carpet floors. Sometimes, it feels awkward to ask guests to remove their shoes but I found a way to politely ask them to do it. I made this cute sign and hung it outside of our front door. Thanks to Pinterest for the idea! 🙂

Please Remove Your Shoes | Athlete Within Ja

This little sign is perfect! They get the message and they remove their shoes without me telling them. I know not everyone that comes over are prepared to go shoeless. So I placed a basket filled with soft guest slippers in all sizes by our front door. That way, our guests would still be comfortable to walk around our house.

8.) I hate the taste of beer. It just taste terrible to me. I’d go for wine and cocktails for alcoholic beverages. 🙂
37828_474759739551_6303701_n

9.) English is my second language. Tagalog (Filipino) is my first. My husband and I are fluent in English and Tagalog. When we have a child, we want him/her to learn both languages well.

10.) I love scented candles. After a workout, nothing beats taking a warm shower with a very soothing, menthol scent of eucalyptus scented candle. So relaxing. 🙂

Photo Mar 24, 5 25 08 PM

11.) I get so cold easily. I am so terribly sensitive to the cold especially my extremities, fingers and toes. I love winter and snow but I have cold intolerance. I need to really bundle up when we go out in winter months. I am truly thankful for discovering this wonderful product – Hot Hands hand warmers. It’s a savior! In addition to gloves, I have Hot Hands inside.

I enjoy outdoor activities in all seasons. In the cold months, I have to find quality winter gears and clothing perfect for me or else I’ll die of hypothermia (LOL!). One of my favorites is the Columbia base layer socks. I wear them to go snowboarding, running outdoors in the cold or even on regular days. It is very effective in keeping my feet warm. They have it in colors blue, black (which are the ones I got), and pink (told you, I am not a pink person).

11 Questions Wendy asked me:

  1. What was your favorite comic strip as a child?
I was a fan of Archie comic books. I grew up with Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica, and the rest of their gang. 🙂
  2. Do you own any pets?  If so, what kind?
I don’t have pets. Unfortunately, I suffered from Bronchial Asthma as a child. Having pets will trigger my asthma symptoms.
  3. Why do you blog?
I started blogging to keep track of my progress and I wanted to share my love for running. There’s no other social media out there that gave me this sense of belonging. Blogging to me is a community of like-minded people who all share the same passion, hopes, and dreams. It is such a positive place to be when I’m feeling down. People say I inspire them, I’m inspired by them too! The support I get from the blogging community is just awesome.
  4. If you could only own one book, what would it be?
The World Almanac because it’s packed with information.
  5. Do you color inside the lines or outside?
    Inside the lines… @@
  6. What word would your mother use to describe you?
My mom is a Psychiatrist, so she would describe me as crazy. LOL! 🙂
  7. What word would your best friend use to describe you?
My husband is my best friend, he describes me as crazy too. Hmmm.
  8. What is your biggest pet peeve?
    Boastful and arrogant people.
  9. Have you ever been in a bar brawl?
Nope and I don’t intend to.
  10. Do you believe in ghosts?
    I don’t. I shouldn’t but I still really can’t sleep alone at night without a night light.
  11. What have you done to prepare for a zombie invasion?
Interval training workouts to improve my speed and endurance. I need to run faster than a zombie. :p

Happy First Day of Spring!

Hello everyone!

Happy first day of spring!! Spring is officially here! We survived winter! There are still some patches of snow and still freezing cold up here in Ohio but I know that warmer times are just right around the corner. I’ve said this countless times – I love snow but I can’t wait to run outside in shorts!!!

I’m so ready to put away our winter coats and scarves. They take too much space in our closet. I’m pumped about the new season and waking up to a bright morning like today! It’s really bright out so I’m rocking my new sunnies today. 🙂

Want my Bulu Box shirt? Click on the pic and check out my giveaway. 🙂

My favorite thing about spring is all the bright and beautiful colors. I also love the warm sun and the cool breeze touching my skin.

But, I don’t hate winter because I love snowboarding. All the snowboarding adventures and trips I had with my husband during the winter was a lot of fun!

293565_10151633297524552_1697695036_n541961_10151636366794552_444122953_nThe snowy scenery you get during winter season is just beautiful.

615456_10151636404249552_821295224_oAnd oh, my first time running in the snow was definitely a lot of fun too!
(Related post: My Holiday Recap (Part 4): My First Run in the Snow!)

577739_10151613008019552_2036258095_nSo, yeah, I don’t dread the snow but I’m over winter season (for now). I know I will definitely miss having a little bit of the white stuff again come the dreary summer months, that’s for sure.

I now look forward to more running adventures this spring. The best thing about this season is the weather. There’s nothing like a good run on a nice, crisp, sunny day. When the weather is perfect, not too hot, not too cold, your body is comfortable, your breathing is easy and the sun feels warm on your face. These are the days when you love being a runner.

By the way, I got my POP Pilates in the mail yesterday! If you haven’t checked out Blogilates, you MUST. She is an amazing trainer and I love doing her workouts!

Wishing you all a beautiful day!

Own Domain Soon + Giveaway! Giveaway!

I finally decided. it’s about time my blog go from a wordpress.com to my own domain! 🙂 Wuhoo! 🙂

I started my blog last Summer (July 2012) to write all my adventures about my new found passion – running. It’s only been 8 months and I am overwhelmed by how fast my blog has grown.

To all my readers, commenters, followers, friends, family and fellow bloggers, thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You guys are amazing. Thank you for supporting my little blogging adventure. Thank you for all the nice comments and messages. You are all so encouraging especially in times when I doubt myself. I appreciate everyone who stops by and visits my blog. I really do. When I’m out, some people even come up to me and say that my blog inspires them. Wow, I am humbled, truly humbled. Thank you all so much! ❤

I think it’s about time, too, to create an FB page link to my blog – so my FB friends who care less about running, healthy food choices, etc, are not bothered by my links and information  (haha). While I “wish” everyone would care more about being healthy and active, I know that’s not our world today. I would rather share and talk about all these to people who are into it and share same interests as mine. 🙂

I named my blog “Athlete in Me” – as it was the first thing that popped into my mind. I really did discover the “athlete in me” when I started running and joining races, so I went ahead and used it. I had no other ideas at the time. I knew I wanted to blog about my training to inspire others and keep me motivated.

AthleteInMe.com is already taken. It’s a very common phrase. Then I changed it “Athlete Within Ja” to kind of prepare myself for the change when I buy my domain. But this name I didn’t feel like it’s “me” anymore. If I had known my blog would eventually lead to this, I would have taken more time to think of a better and unique name.

Although I have already ideas in mind of a blog name, I want to expand my choices! I’m open to more ideas and suggestions.

I’d like to ask for your ideas, something creative, clever and “me” (see About Me page for ideas). I’m not opposed to a running-related name as long as it’s available for domain use.

www

And yes, you get a prize if I pick you! 🙂

So, let’s talk about what I’m giving away.

I’m giving away a box of goodies! 🙂

It comes in the mail in a super cute orange box!

I like how their box has motivational quotes printed all over it.

I first saw this super cute card with a sweet hand written message for me. 🙂

They also sent me this motivational sticker. 🙂

Inside was a pamphlet with an exercise guide on one side and information about the products in the box on the other side.

Here are the products included in this month’s box:
* Dream Water

The only product I’ve tried among these is the aero shot. I’ve tried it before when we went snowboarding and they certainly do work. It kept me energized for long hours on the slopes. 🙂

My thoughts: I think it’s a great concept. The convenience of trying one sample before committing to the full size version in specialty stores is worth it!

Everything in this box (well, except for my greeting card) will be yours if I pick you. 🙂

And, Stephanie from Bulu Box was kind enough to include a free technical shirt (your choice of color and size)! Nice! 🙂

How Was Your Weekend Running?

How did you spend your St. Patrick’s Day? Did you run a green race?

So awesome to see pictures and read so many stories of people rockin’ their races this weekend! Way to go, everybody!

Here’s something I did yesterday…

I woke up early to attend yoga class.

Image

No, it wasn’t a requirement to wear green, but I just felt like wearing green since it was St. Patrick’s Day.

After yoga, I hit up Lululemon for a little retail therapy. 🙂

I got a cute running shirt and a matching headband.

ImageOh Lulu retail therapy…how I love you so. I’m excited to rock you today for kickboxing class! I’m going peach on peach today. 🙂

Photo Mar 18, 10 05 01 AM

This top feels amazing! From the moment I put this on I knew I had to get it despite the crazy price tag. I had the “what the heck!!!” look inside the fitting room when I saw the tag. Oh well, sometimes Lululemon is just what a girl needs. 🙂

So, did you race in one of the many half marathons this weekend, or just went out for run?

Whatever race you’re doing, remember to finish strong…not like this… LOL! 🙂

Photo Mar 16, 8 32 17 AMHappy Monday everyone! 🙂

Happy Pi Day!

Happy Pi Day everyone!

522717_10152692123230192_7285435_n

Pi Day? … I just saw that all over Facebook today. Apparently, it’s a day to commemorate the mathematical constant π (pi). You know, March 14? 3/14? Oh, ok I got it! LOL!

So to celebrate this mathematical day, my husband and I did a 3.14-mile evening run! 🙂

Photo Mar 14, 7 30 11 PM

A pic of my husband’s watch.
I got a little carried away with mine and went 3.16 on accident! LOL!

I wore my Sweaty Bands today. This is my absolute favorite headband – I literally wear it almost every time I work out. I got the sparkly black to match all of my workout gear and regular clothes. I love that it stays put during my workouts, even during burpees! Haha.

Photo Mar 14, 7 23 16 PM

I love my Sweaty Band so much that I will be ordering more colors. Sweaty Bands company offers more than thousand colors, patterns and print combinations. They grip and hold your hair during the most strenuous of workouts, all without slipping, pulling or tugging. You can even custom design your headband too. I love the fact that their main office is located here in Cincinnati, OH. So close to me! 🙂

They’ve just launched their newest collection – Sweaty Safari Collection. I am affiliated with them, that means, all my readers can get 5% off when you use my link to purchase.

Click on the banner below and save 5% off your purchase.
affiliatebannerAfter our run, we hit the weights! My husband made me do a lot of upper body workouts today.

Photo Mar 14, 7 44 54 PM

Photo Mar 14, 7 57 00 PM

I know my arms are the weakest part of my body. I used to not be able to do push ups or get anywhere near a pull up bar. Doing kickboxing and Pilates, I noticed that I am slowly improving. I now can do a number of push ups and pull ups. I realized that our bodies are stronger than we think and capable of more than we expect.

Photo Mar 14, 8 10 33 PM

That’s it for now. I am feeling good tonight but I know my body is going to be sore tomorrow. :/

Goodnight everyone!

Did you earn your “pi” today? How many miles did you run/walk?

Lock Laces on My Brooks, I Run Happy!

Hello everyone! 🙂

How was your weekend? Have you guys adjusted to the time yet? I dislike the abrupt change but I’m ready to spring forward! Weather is getting nicer and I can’t wait to run outside in shorts again!

As I was browsing my FB yesterday, I saw Lock Laces’ status about their special offer for this spring on their page.

Screen shot 2013-03-08 at 8.45.22 AM

I use Lock Laces for my running shoes and I’ve had these for over 9 months now. It’s still there and I love them. 🙂

586cc3ed29ad7b05ba60ef87f40fc02f

Before I discovered Lock Laces, I always had issues with my shoe laces. They tend to be too long for my narrow feet. I double tie them but still dangle too long and I am always afraid the laces will be caught when biking or step on them when running. When I got Lock Laces in the mail, I immediately put them on and went for a run. From then, the issues are gone. No more loose laces when running. I want my shoes snug on my feet and since these are stretchy enough, they don’t constrict your feet when you tighten compared to the original lace. I’ve learned that this is popular among triathletes to save time during transitions. Good thing I learned about this as I am considering training for sprint triathlon in the future. For now, I am a happy runner. I will be getting another pair for my Newtons and for my future new running shoes. This is the best product since sliced bread! 🙂

I love running gear innovations like these. They make our runs more comfortable and more enjoyable.

Have you tried one of these before? What other cool running gears have you tried so far?

Vegetable Curry

I’m back for another Meatless Monday recipe!

I knew I was going to come home late from kickboxing class tonight and I didn’t want to worry about cooking when I get home so I decided to use my handy-dandy Crock-Pot today…and maybe for the next few days. 😛 I started preparing our dinner in the afternoon and enjoyed the rest of the day. 🙂

Tonight’s recipe: Vegetable Curry

Photo Mar 04, 7 34 46 PM

  • 16-oz. pkg. baby carrots (I only used half)

Easy Peasy! Dinner was ready when we got home from workout. It was perfectly cooked and tasted good! My husband and I enjoyed tonight’s dinner while watching the latest episode of Walking Dead. This show becomes less scary the more you watch it. 🙂

Hello March!

Happy March 1st! New month, fresh start.

My husband and I did an intense workout last night. After our run, we hit the weights.

Photo Feb 28, 7 58 19 PM

Honestly, I typically don’t go to this section of the gym. I feel intimidated because I don’t know how to use most of the equipments in there. I don’t know what type of exercises to do and I have this fear of looking stupid. I’m glad I went with my husband this time. He taught me how to use the machines and what those are for. I really need to venture out and start learning how to use  the dumbbells, weights and weight machines. I don’t have upper body strength and I feel like I need to tone up and gain a bit of muscle for my overall health.

Now, I feel sore and my body needed a rest day. Thank God, It’s Friday! 🙂

Photo Mar 01, 9 25 38 AM

My favorite breakfast to start my day. Oatmeal with dash of cinnamon, bananas, peaches, granola with raisins and almonds, chia seeds and a teaspoon of PB.

I was surprised to receive mail from our local running store this morning. With all the stuff my family bought from them over the holidays, they sent us $100 worth coupons to spend in their store! AWESOME!

Photo Mar 01, 11 08 02 AM

I can’t wait to spend these to score some goodies! I love our running store! 🙂

Tonight, my husband took charge of making dinner. He made buttered garlic shrimp.

yum!

I just want to share this inspiring video about a boyfriend who helped his injured girlfriend cross the finish line. I was touched by their story and really worth sharing.

My Holiday Recap (Part 5): Last One!

I thought before love month ends, I could at least be done sharing my memorable holidays.

So here it is. The last one of my Holiday Recap

Dec 31 (Monday) New Years Eve:

We celebrated it in our little home here in Ohio. 🙂

25057_422777931125152_836447770_nFamily from Houston, Canada, Indiana and Philippines came over to our place to celebrate New Year’s. We were 17 total! We had to set a schedule for shower to accommodate everyone. LOL!

16653_423976317671980_1780045081_n

New Years is usually the noisiest time of the year in the Philippines.  The same way Americans enjoy Fourth of July with fireworks, Filipinos go all out with the noise on New Year’s eve clanging pots and pans, blow party horns (torotot) and light up firecrackers. We do that in the belief to scare away evil spirits and bring good luck, fortune, and prosperity in the new year. Since we were here in the U.S. and fireworks are not allowed in our neighborhood, we are stuck with just party horns.

Like Christmas Eve, Filipinos celebrate New Years with a midnight feast too. We had roast pig (lechon) that night. It’s been a while since the last time I ate lechon. Good thing my husband was able to find a Filipino food store online based in Columbus, just 1 hour away from us. Their food is really good! So, if you guys are in for some Filipino dishes, check out their facebook page.

At the stroke of midnight, everyone greeted each other a Happy New Year

…and danced the night away.

everyone got too crazy… but fun crazy. lol!

New Year is not complete without a bottle of alcohol. It has become a tradition for us that whoever hosts the party should provide a bottle of Patron.

sister, mom and me

My husband and I were overwhelmed with happiness.

Jan 2, 2013 (Wed):

With New Years resolutions starting, there was no better way to start the year of than with renewing your dedication to fitness! 🙂 To get my family motivated, my husband and I brought them to our favorite local specialty running store so they can get fitted correctly by experts and help them get the perfect workout shoes.

My sister plays volleyball so she was given Mizuno Women’s Wave Inspire 9.

2013-01-03 09.50.34

My sister loved it and she said that it’s very soft, light and comfortable.

My mom does zumba most of the time so she was given Newtons Distance (same as my running shoes). 🙂

2013-01-03 09.51.31

According to the staff that assisted her, Newton shoes are also great for zumba because they have those lugs for shock absorption when dancing (Interesting! I didn’t know that!). They’re light that makes it easier to move and glide across the floor but still supportive enough. She threw in some cushioned inserts as well for added comfort. My mom loved it because it’s very light and comfortable, and has bright colors which suits her style well. 🙂

Jan 4, 2013 (Friday): A day before they leave.

I was already starting to feel sad that day. We made the most out of their remaining hours. We all went out and gave my family a tour of beautiful Cincinnati. 🙂

dropbox (2)

It was hard for my husband and I to go back to reality when they left. Our house felt empty and so quiet. I don’t mind the chaos and the waiting in line to use the bathroom when everyone was here (LOL!). But we had to face reality that vacation was over and they had to go back to work and school. It was just sad when they left.

I’m so grateful this year that my family is healthy and able to travel to celebrate this special time of year with me and my husband.

Family

I am really thankful that I was fortunate to have a very functional family growing up, and my parents set wonderful examples for my siblings and me. I’m very grateful for my husband, who is my best friend, and his parents for being the nicest parent-in-laws one could ever have! We had a lot of fun together. It truly was a wonderful Holiday Season for us.

‘Til the next time for us to see each other again. Maybe in a year or two we might be able to save enough to go home and share my experience with you guys Christmas in the Philippines. It’s nothing like you’ve ever seen before! If you’re a traveler at heart and happen to be in the Philippines around September to December, you will know what I mean. The loud Christmas songs everywhere, the colorful lanterns, joyful caroling of kids, and all-night-all-morning festivities up to Christmas day are things that I grew up experiencing. Still, I am very grateful to be alive and content where life has taken me. My husband and I may be alone here in Ohio but we’ve met so many kind people, friends who’ve already treated us like family and are very thoughtful to us. We definitely feel truly blessed.

Hope you guys had a wonderful time reading my Holiday Recaps as much as I had fun sharing them to you guys!

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo.

Meet My New Love, ELLIE!

I have been stalking our mailbox for the past few days waiting for my first ever package from ELLIE!

…And here it is!!! =)

Letter

love letter from Ellie

Let’s see what my picks for this month look like… ***Drum roll*** 🙂

Photo Feb 21, 4 15 57 PMOutfit #1

I love this top! It’s very light weight. I didn’t notice it in their site but it is made of mesh fabric I have other workout tops that are made of this kind of material and I love how breathable they are when I do my runs outdoors. PERFECT!

Photo Feb 21, 4 20 30 PM

I love the drapey effect at the back.

Photo Feb 21, 4 44 42 PM

it was definitely a struggle to take this picture. lol.

My favorite part about this outfit is that pink color that’s peeking out on the capris. Isn’t that cute?!

Photo Feb 21, 4 36 44 PM

It has this mesh overylay detail that makes these capris unique! I love a twist like that on clothes. 🙂
Photo Feb 21, 4 48 06 PMOutfit #2

First impression, this top is super soft! This will also be a perfect under layer when I do my runs in the cold winter months!

Photo Feb 22, 1 39 46 PM

I love the thumbholes and the foldable hand covers to warm my fingers. Who ever invented this idea is a …GENIUS!

Ellie2

And for the leggings, love…love…love the details!

back details (I struggled again to take this picture. LOL!)

Photo Feb 22, 1 46 54 PM

side details

I had my husband turn to me when I walked right through him in our living room. He thinks the details were pretty cool. It’s a little strange because he was playing video games at that time and he never gets distracted that easily. Hmm… there’s something about these leggings. LOL! 🙂

The name says it, these leggings are now “my new obsession”. 🙂

Overall, I’m VERY satisfied! Both outfits are very comfortable and worth the price. Ellie exceeded beyond my expectations and I highly recommend their clothes.

I’m glad that they changed things up a little bit and put the option to choose which outfits you like. I definitely prefer it that way than surprising you with something that you might not like in the end. The clothes I got from the past few months when they were still Pv.body, some of them I can’t use for running. Now, with the option to choose, I was able to pick clothes that I can definitely use for any of my workouts. All of them are perfect for my outdoor runs, kickboxing, yoga, pilates or for lounging around the house.

Ellie I’m happy with the changes and looking forward for more from ELLIE! 🙂

So, if you like what you see, go join in and give ELLIE a try! 🙂

My Last of Pv.Body but More of Ellie!!! :)

I am very sure a lot of you already know about this news from PV.body. Now, instead of paying $49.95 for brands like Lululemon, Nike, Nux, American Apparel, etc, you will be receiving clothes from the company’s new brand, Ellie. Of course, a lot of people reacted to it. Some people said that this was a classic example of a bait and switch. I’ve read posts of some bloggers ranting about the switch. Honestly, I don’t blame them for feeling that way but I needed to hear both sides first before I make my own judgement. I don’t like jumping into a conclusion without investigating. 🙂

So, instead of joining in the drama, I had to ask them myself what’s really going on. And here’s Hope’s from Pv.body/Ellie reply:

(please click photo to enlarge)

Screen shot 2013-02-20 at 2.27.39 PM

I waited for this issue to calm down a bit before I write my thoughts about it. First off, I have nothing against the company and I can’t say anything negative about them. I am saying this not only because I am personally receiving great service from them, but, I think their concept is still fantastic even with the switch. For me, the option for you to choose your own 2 pieces is way better than having to receive clothes you don’t like. Then the hassle of returning it and asking for a refund is just madness. I really have no problems of giving Ellie a try.

I haven’t tried their new line yet. It is on it’s way to me (yay!). So far, I’m reading positive reviews on their facebook page from people who have already gotten their clothes from Ellie.com. I’m getting excited to get mine! Maybe Ellie is going to be amazing and all the ranting and complaining weren’t necessary after all. 🙂

Before I move on to Ellie, I’d like to show you guys this last one package I got last month from PV.body. 🙂

2013-01-17 10.43.58

of course their pink package still excites me. 🙂

2013-01-17 10.45.29

I got this black racerback yoga cami from Beyond Yoga.

2013-01-17 10.47.08

It is very basic but flattering. Because it’s partly made of cotton, I probably won’t wear this for running even though it says “Beyond Yoga” (haha) . Cotton fabrics will definitely absorb my sweat and that will be very uncomfortable. I’d stick to yoga when I wear this. I like it and I am keeping it.

For bottoms I got these gray leggings from American Apparel.

2013-01-17 10.48.01

I’ve received same brand of leggings before from them (check out this post) but in a different color. I’ve worn these leggings several times already to kickboxing class. I like them. They look really good either working out or when going out with boots and long sweater.  I love that it has a thick waist band which makes it comfortable. My only problem I have for this is they can’t go in the dryer. It says in the tag, “hang to dry”, but not really a  big deal for me.

2013-01-17 10.48.30

2013-01-17 14.00.59

By the way, my mom already sent me a picture of herself happily wearing the top I got from my previous Pv.Body package. The top definitely looks better on her. Good thing I gave it to her. 🙂22186_10151390517653416_932769324_n

Overall, I am satisfied again.

I’m glad I was able to maintain a positive attitude despite all the negative reaction about the switch. I really hope things will get better with the option to choose which pieces you like. I support new businesses and I think it’s normal to have few glitches in the first few months. I will continue my subscription with them and I look forward to what this new brand Ellie has in store for me.

So there you go with my HONEST thoughts. FYI: The company did not ask me to make this post. And for those who signed up through my link before and wasn’t happy with the change, I am honestly sorry. Anyway, if you don’t love their new line, You can cancel your membership at anytime. You were never obligated to remain a member.

But for those who wants to try their new line, here’s a link that will give you 20% when you sign up. Link: http://ellie.evyy.net/c/48907/58556/1664

P.S. Just a little thought before I end this post 🙂

Take care everyone! 🙂

My Holiday Recap (Part 4): My First Run in the Snow!

To continue my Holiday Recap

Dec 31 (Monday): “My First Run in the Snow” day. 🙂

When I started running, I knew I would have to get used to running in various conditions. That day gave me a taste of running in the snow.

Early that morning, my dad, aunt, uncle, brother, sister and me decided to hit the trail for a run. We thought it was a good thing to do before we feast that night to welcome the new year

I was actually pretty excited. Finally, I will get to experience how it feels like running in the snow. It was in the low twenties and everything outside was covered in a soft blanket of snow. I layered myself up and put on my regular running shoes (Newtons Distance).

It looked so peaceful and the air was fresh. Once we entered the trail the snowy scenery was so beautiful. It looked like a complete different scenery at this time of the year compared to when we hit this trail during the summer and fall.

Photo Dec 31, 11 08 15 AM

It was a mental battle to go out in the COLD but once we’re out and running it became fine.

It was a fun 3-mile run for us (and walk for my dad haha).  Of course, with lots of stop overs in between to take pictures of the beautiful scenery.

I wore my regular running shoes and only to realize they don’t have much traction. I slipped countless times and fell but nothing serious. It was all good.

71611_10151207528643359_934077957_n-1

Then when I got home, I read about bindings that you can attach to your running shoes to add traction. Traction devices like YakTrax and STABILicers that can give you extra stability in the snow.

Has anyone tried those? How was it? I would love to hear your thoughts about them.

If you’ve been reading my blog for any amount of time then you know I’m crazy about the snow. There’s just something about snow that makes you feel like a kid again.

I remember the first time I ran in the rain, I felt pretty bad ass. Running in the snow is a different story. It does require more energy and I felt even more bad ass! 🙂

I hear some people absolutely love winter running. Now that I have tried running in the winter cold and snow, I’m growing to like it. I like running in the temperatures of Spring and Fall but Winter cold isn’t that bad at all. I’m used to the cold weather already and it is definitely much comfortable than running in the hot summer days.

How about you? What’s your favorite season to run?

Do you have any other tips for running in the cold or snow? Do you love it or do you hate it?

Happy Running!
