Sweet Victory! – Hudepohl 14k Run Update

We did an awesome race last Saturday. It’s called Hudepohl 14k Brewery Run. My husband & I had a blast and I’m so excited to share the best finisher medal I have ever received…and seen so far. 🙂

Yes, it’s a bottle opener! The moment I saw a picture of the medal in their facebook page, I felt even more excited to run this race. I was so excited when it was handed to me at the finish line.  I thought it’s so cool and functional too. 🙂

Party after the race + a cool medal, it is indeed a sweet victory.

The race started at 8:00 am. We got to the place at around 7:30am. We still had time to do our stretching and take pictures before the race.

It was a bit chilly and windy that morning. Fall season is definitely in the air =). I had to wear my arm bands. I like my arm bands because I can easily remove and tuck them in my spi belt when I am already feeling hot from running.

The after-race party was held outside of this restaurant Moerlein.

Some ran in teams in their costumes and this team was my favorite!

Ghost Busters!!! 🙂

Some people I met from that day are running this race as part of their training for their Fall Half Marathons and Marathons. I’m running a half-marathon too (my second one! yay!) in November and looks like we all thought of same thing. The fact that we are getting a cool medal out of our training, definitely a great idea, right?! 🙂

I finished in 1 hour and 34 mins. And this is me, so happy to finally get hold of that precious medal! LOL! It is definitely run-worthy! 🙂

After the race, my husband and I went back to our car to freshen up, change our clothes and get ready to party. Our bibs have actually stubs attached to it that we can peel off to redeem our free food and beer.

My husband looks like he’s enjoying his share of beer.

There were 2 stubs for each individual for beer. One glass of beer each was enough for my husband and me. We had to give away our other stubs to other people. Those two guys who we gave our stubs to were so happy. Hey, never turn down a free beer. 🙂

But we got use of all the food stubs we had! We were so hungry after the race.

I can turn down alcohol, BUT NOT free food! LOL! 🙂 …Especially after a run. :p

One more pic before I end this post. I just want to share this beautiful view at the party – one of the bridges connecting Ohio to Kentucky. 🙂

I absolutely love Cincinnati races. I did the Flying Pig Half Marathon last May and I fell in love at the beautiful scenery in both Cincinnati and Kentucky. You guys should come check out races here in Cincy! You will definitely enjoy it. 🙂

That’s it for now! Hope you all had an amazing weekend too.

Happy running everyone.

Those were great pictures! Really appreciate the post. I thought about doing the Hudy, living in Hamilton as I do. But with it being so close to my marathon, I didn’t want to stray from my training routine. But after reading yours, I plan to sign up for it next year. Looks like a fun time AND I love beer.

Congrats on your time. Under 11 minute miles is a good pace. I may run the Pig half next spring. Maybe I will see you and your husband. Keep running!

The race was fun! I highly recommend you do this race next year! 🙂 You will enjoy it!
Thank you, I am still in the process of improving my time and pace. Hopefully I get faster & stronger soon. 🙂

If you happen to see me at the Flying Pig, and you think that’s us, don’t hesitate to approach us. My husband & I will be happy to know a fellow Ohioan runner. 🙂

      Happy Running!

That is true! 🙂 And the feeling you get when people are cheering for you even if they don’t know you and after crossing the finish line, very rewarding. 🙂

Wow, that’s a quite interesting, beautiful and useful medal! even though I don’t think I would “use” it after sweating 14k for it… ahahaha
Where was this race held, Cincinnati? I must include it in a travel destination list, it’s a very nice view…

Haha. I haven’t used it to open bottles yet. I don’t think I will ever use it. LOL! It’s hanging on my wall right now as display for me. Haha. 🙂

Yup, here in Cincinnati! 🙂 Register for Flying Pig Marathon next year. You will definitely enjoy it! 🙂

It must have been a fun race to run. Beer stubs on the bib and a bottle opener medal? Everybody must have run really hard to finish and start partying as soon as possible… 🙂

Yes, that’s true! It was a fun event. It was well organized. The atmosphere is different. Everybody is having so much fun! I wish every post race is like this. 🙂

I love your medal and the glass that came with it too!

I would be giving away the beer coupons too (I don’t drink), and every time I’ve ever gotten one and given it away I made a new friend because the person was so happy to get it. But the food coupons… yeah those would have been MINE… especially after a long race like that, bc it would make me super hungry. It looks like it was a pretty race and overall fun too with so many costumes. Congrats on your time, that’s really awesome for a training run and hopefully you can run your half at that pace too, or maybe even better 🙂

I don’t drink beer that much unless it’s really really cold and I’m on the beach. 🙂 Hahaha. I have a personal place preference for drinking beer. I should be at the beach. LOL!
I only drank half of my beer then my husband finished it for me. Then we decided to give away our extra stubs. The guys who got our stubs had smiles up to their ears. LOL! They were so happy.
It was definitely a great race. Fun crowd! It was well organized. Thanks for the encouragement. I saw in your blog, you’re running a half marathon soon too. Wow, an addition to your tons of races. 🙂 That’s great! Goodluck to you too!
